The Cup on
the Windowsill
Some things remain because they are still participating.
Approach the windowAn ordinary object
The cup is ordinary.
Look anyway.
It has waited beside the glass long enough for the room to learn its outline.
Lift it when you are ready.
What the ring leaves open
What continues participating?
Do not ask the object to confess a secret. Notice what is there, what arrives beside it, and what your attention adds afterward.
Tomorrow, pause before reaching for one familiar object. Notice its weight. Its wear. Where it waits when no one is using it.
Then return it to ordinary life. Perhaps to the same place. Perhaps an inch to one side.
The room remains
Attention does not make the ordinary less ordinary. It makes relationship visible.
